Merritt College
In 2005 Dr. Linda Berry, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dr. Gary Yee, Dean of Science at Merritt College worked together with Dr. Ben Chavis, founder of the American Indian Model (AIM to Educate) to create a partnership between Merritt College and American Indian Public High School. Since 2006, American Indian Public High School students have had the opportunity to take courses from Merritt professors at our campus and on the Merritt College campus, where AIPHS students have had access to Merritt’s state-of-the-art science laboratories, computer labs, and library resources. The AIPHS curriculum coupled with Merritt courses has effectively allowed students to simultaneously receive high school and college credit. The partnership has allowed our students to accumulate more than 60 units of college credit. The students enter colleges and major universities like UC Berkeley, Cornell, and Stanford as sophomores and juniors.

Not one of our graduates has had to take a remedial course upon entering college. Since many of our students attend state universities, sophomore or junior standing saves a great deal of money for taxpayers. Additionally, many of AIPHS's graduates finish college within just two years, thanks to this wonderful partnership with Merritt.
